Gun Control and the "Right to bear Arms"

Much has been written over the last 60 days on the Obamanation, now Obamic Plague and of course all those lovely busy liberal tax spenders who have nothing to do but spend time re examining the constitution and bending it one way or another... Anyway let me not digress on the State of the Nation - such that it is - some one had an interesting definition on is - but lets not digress further! OK then, as a UK ex patriot under severe gun control, perhaps I have a slightly different point of view on the gun issue - but not with its constitutionality (if thats a phrase). Armed robbery, assault and all the ghastly other violent crimes which are committed in the UK are far lower than in the US expressed per capita. Unquestionably that is because of the difficulty in obtaining a fire arm. Licensing, gun cabinet training are just but a few of the exciting proceedures one has to go through in order to "own" a gun. Whilst I could not agree more with the expressed right in the constitution "to bear arms" we must remember when this was written. There wasn't much else, or anybody else for that matter who would do any defending if you got into trouble!!!Nowadays - we have a Police Force, who do carry guns - they could do with some training too but more digression.. Anyway, I think there could be a small amendment - something along the same lines as obtaining a drivers license - oh no - bad plan - think of all those great drivers! Well perhaps my fellow bloggers could come up with some form of Licensing/training scheme that would not infringe the rights of the amendment, but at least identify gun owners, and expect some level of professional training. After all I would hate to see the Liberals add "we will decide who has the right to bear arms and who doesn't" on some mamby pamby, trumped up, special interest, tax paid, gay rights, sub committee!!!!!
